"As an instructor I enjoy watching the learners progress into becoming something that they never thought they could be."

Andrew’s time in education started after A Levels where he studied at University to achieve a degree in Design in 2005. This gave him the opportunity to work for a company designing resources and posters for schools in all curriculum subjects. Shortly after this, Andrew followed his ambition to be part of the military where he joined the Royal Engineers. This gave him many opportunities to travel and gain practical skills, whilst also experiencing many positive challenges and personal growth through a military lifestyle.
After six years in the military, Andrew decided to pursue a career back in education where he completed my PGCE Secondary in Design and Technology which allowed me to combine the experiences of his degree and practical skills from the Royal Engineers.
Andrew joined the MPCT Team in 2014 and progressed from Training Instructor to Head of Schools. His current position allows Andrew to continue to train and learn from new instructors, whilst shaping the Military Preparation School curriculum to engage and develop pre-16 learner’s employability skills and fitness whilst enhancing school curriculums around the UK.
I was born on 04/07/1988 and spent my child hood growing up in Abercynon South Wales. I decided that I wanted to Join the Royal Marines at the Age of 15 and enrolled in the Military Preparation College based in Cardiff.
I joined the Royal Marines at the Age of 16 and passed for duty as an original in 2005. During my 14 year career I deployed on three tours of Afghanistan and various exercises around the globe including mountain training in the Himalayas. I specialised as an Assault Engineer and spent most of my time as a Corporal and a Section Commander.
My most rewarding time in the Royal Marines was when I had the opportunity to mentor Recruits through the 32 weeks of Commando training and also being attached to the Special Forces Support Group. Shortly after this period I was medically discharged due to a back injury after spending nearly two years in Rehabilitation.
On leaving the Marines I travelled Europe in a camper van with my wife and two dogs, visited over 20 countries and met some amazing people. I enjoy travelling, fitness, hiking and climbing.
